Volunteers are the heartbeat of Second Harvest. Volunteers help us pack and distribute food to neighbors in need throughout the county. By donating a few hours of your time, you’ll make it possible for us to provide healthy food to the 70,000 people we serve each month
Volunteer Opportunities
Weekday Food Packs
Come to our warehouse to volunteer! We need volunteers to help us sort and pack 3,500 bags and boxes of fresh produce and dry goods per week to distribute to our partner agencies throughout Santa Cruz County.
Saturday Sorts
We offer two shifts each Saturday. Early bird or late riser: we have a weekend volunteer opportunity for you! We need Volunteers to help us sort and pack over 13,000 lbs. of fresh produce and dry goods for our community per week.
Community Food Distribtions
Did you know that Second Harvest directly operates over 100 food distributions throughout the community, each month? Volunteers are needed to assist at small monthly or bi-weekly distributions throughout the community.
Gleaning
Want to give back and enjoy the outdoors? Join us as we glean fresh produce from local farms, right here in Watsonville. No experience needed, just come and help harvest fresh food for the community.
Healthy Food Box Distribution
Help us get food moving! Volunteer with us on Thursdays for client check-in and loading of medically supportive groceries for delivery.
Special Events
Help out with a variety of occasions benefitting Second Harvest throughout the community: outreach tabling, serving food and wine at events, even flower arranging!
Group Volunteer Opportunities
Second Harvest can provide a variety of customized group volunteer activities for your organization. Whether it’s corporate team building, school field trips, or your church’s community service day – we can create a volunteer opportunity that’s right for you. Groups can make a group reservation by filling out the request form below.
Clerical & Office Opportunities
Is an office environment more your style? Clerical volunteers assist with a variety of projects that support of our programs and services, including filing, scanning, photocopying, making calls, inputting data into computer systems, and inventorying kits. Availability depends on current project load – email us to find out more.
