The Holiday Food & Fund Drive is on!

The giving season starts now, and it starts with you.

For Second Harvest Food Bank, November and December are the most intensive two months of the year! We’re kicking off our annual Holiday Food and Fund Drive which raises over half of the food Second Harvest provides all year long for food insecure families in Santa Cruz County.

That’s a huge undertaking and it can’t be done without YOU – the Santa Cruz County Community!

To kick off the 2021 campaign, co-chairs Carlos Palacios (Santa Cruz County Administrative Officer), and Cynthia Larive (Chancellor at UC Santa Cruz), addressed an enthusiastic crowd Thursday, November 4, at an outdoor rally hosted by Cabrillo College.

Co-Chairs Cynthia Larive (Chancellor at UC Santa Cruz) and Carlos Palacios (Santa Cruz County Administrative Officer)

Larive explained that 100% of all funds raised during this campaign directly feed the local communityAnswering the call and early to set the  fundraising bar, Stephen Gray from Sutter Health/ Palo Alto Medical Foundation presented Second Harvest with a donation for $16,500 (equal to 66,000 healthy meals!). Gray then extended the challenge to other businesses and organizations in the county in hopes of making this the most successful campaign to date.

Second Harvest Food Bank provides mini donation barrels to help collect funds. Community members use these containers to collect money on behalf of their office, their family, or their neighborhood organizationsThe mini barrels are turned in at the end of the giving season in December and funds are added to the total campaign to feed our local food-insecure neighbors.

If you or your organization would like to participate in the 2021 Holiday Food and Fund Drive, it‘s easy – contact julie@thefoodbank.org or visit www.thefoodbank.org/hero to order a ‘mini collection barrel’. Or, please remember to donate when you see a mini barrel around town… and you too can help FEED HOPE.

REMEMBER $1 donated provides 4 healthy meals
