· Last week we distributed nearly 220,000 lbs of food throughout the county to more than 27,000 people.
· 142,000 pounds of that food went out through our non-profit partners. The rest was direct distribution to the community through our nutrition programs and drive through distribution.
· CalFresh Double Market Bucks have been extended through June for the Watsonville and Santa Cruz Farmers Market. If you haven’t yet applied for CalFresh, now is the time. You can get an additional $20 to spend any time throughout the year at these farmers market when you use your CalFresh EBT card in May and June.
As Santa Cruz gets closer to opening up our businesses and community, the Food Bank was looking at safe ways to bring our community volunteers back in to help us with the big job of sorting, packing and distributing the thousands of pounds we distribute each week. But we’re so happy to report that our National Guard Volunteers will be with us through June and into July! This does mean that we will continue to suspend our warehouse volunteer program.
We miss our community volunteers, but also recognize the importance of continuing to shelter-in-place as long as we can in order to minimize risk of exposure and maintain the health and safety of our community.
This week we were back at the fairgrounds for our drive through distribution, and we’ll be back there on June 12th. We continue to move back and forth between the boardwalk and the fairgrounds, every other Friday between 9am – 1pm.
