The Real Faces of Hunger

Ginger Dillman—“Little Miracles”

Ginger Dillman finds that love and gratitude have replaced the despair that dominated her life as she wrestled with alcoholism, unemployment and homelessness seven years ago. “There are miracles around us,” Ginger said as she spoke before a gathering of 120 business leaders recently. “All I have to do is look in the mirror or look at my children and know this to be true.”

Ginger’s Remarkable Recovery

Ready to begin recovery from addiction, Ginger found herself at New Life Community Center, a six-month treatment program helping those suffering from substance abuse. Run by Pastor Steve Stiles, New Life has put thousands of people on the road to recovery for 25 years.

Second Harvest Plays a Role

To feed those in recovery, New Life turns to Second Harvest for food for meals and pantry distributions. Most of the residents of the treatment program are required to work and attend evening meetings. Breakfast in the morning before work and a hot meal in the evening help support them in their recovery.

“I would like to thank Second Harvest for all that they have done in my life, and continue to do in the lives of others,” said a grateful Ginger Dillman, now self-sufficient and back on track.
