Our Vision for Building a Well-nourished Community
Second Harvest Food Bank moved into its current facility in 1986, just in time during the devastating Loma Prieta earthquake. For over 20 years, we have continued to expand our services, but have now reached full capacity. We are currently turning away truck loads of perishable food simply because we do not have the capacity to store it. The increased warehouse space and renovated facility will include efficient distribution features such as:
- Increased freezer and refrigeration space so that donated food is not turned away
- Docks to efficiently unload and load trucks
- Pallet racks to easily store and stage food
The facility will also include a new hunger education and training center and nutrition education kitchen
Building Progress
Phase One of construction is complete! The expansion includes a new freezer with double the capacity, two distribution docks, and space for a produce cooler. See pictures!
