Volunteers Brave Cold to Pack Produce

Volunteers from Bloom of the Present, a Buddhist meditation community in Santa Cruz County, worked in the warehouse in Watsonville in December. They packed more than 300 mixed produce bags, which weigh in at about 27 pounds each. It’s not easy work.

They also filled bags with dental supplies provided by Dientes, which will be distributed at Food For Children sites in Santa Cruz County.

“Our work activity brought to mind the many workers in our community, and throughout the world, who do intense physical labor every day to earn a living for themselves and their families,” said volunteer Valerie Nelson.

“We were able to see what a wonderful organization the food bank is and to appreciate their kind and helpful staff and volunteers.”

Thank you to everyone from Bloom of the Present!

Volunteer groups are always welcome at the food bank. You can sign up here.
