Soif’s Second Annual Waiters Race took place on Sunday, July 14th on Walnut Avenue in Santa Cruz. Spectators lined the block to watch the competition featuring teams from 99 Bottles, Bantam, Hollins House, La Posta Restaurant, MacKenzie Bar and Grill, Palomar and Soif Wine Bar.
The relay race requires waiters to carry trays with full wine glasses through the course, as quickly as possible, without spilling a drop. All the while they must maintain a professional demeanor and win over the crowd with their charm. The judges for the race, Christina Waters, Pim Techmuanvivit and Jeff Trap, awarded the Soif team first place, with Bantam coming in a very close second.
“We support Second Harvest because it is a really good organization,” said Soif owner Patrice Boyle.”It provides a focus for good for very diverse groups within our local community. And what could be more congruent for a restaurant than to be involved with a program that centers around food?”
Thanks to Soif for putting on this fun event and donating the proceeds to Second Harvest. Special thanks to all of the participating restaurants for their contributions. 95% of every $1 donated to Second Harvest is spent on food, which is distributed through our network of more than 200 agencies and programs in Santa Cruz County.
