We’d like to thank the residents of Paloma del Mar senior apartment complex in Freedom for their recent donation of $200. Every dollar donated provides four meals so that will provide 800 meals to people in need.
On a visit to the food bank, they expressed their appreciation for the role we play in providing food to member agencies that serve the residents of Paloma del Mar, specifically Grey Bears and Green Valley Church Pantry. Some of the seniors also participate in Second Harvest’s monthly Watsonville USDA drive-through distribution. They carpool to give rides to the seniors that do not drive.
Second Harvest CEO, Willy Elliott-McCrea and Chief Operations and Programs Officer, Brooke Johnson, took them on a tour of the facility. They were surprised by the size and organization of the warehouse, and the volume of food we distribute annually through our network of more than 200 agencies and programs.
Looking at a pallet of canned vegetables, Rhonda remarked, “Every one of those cans represents someone in need. I know children and families that have been helped by the food bank.”
