With a focus on food during the month of November, The Museum of Art & History (MAH) will be teaming up with Second Harvest to help fight hunger in Santa Cruz County.
The MAH is donating $10 from every new museum membership sold during November to the Second Harvest Holiday Food Drive. “We all need food for body AND soul,” said Nina Simon, Executive Director, The Museum of Art & History. “Partnering with Second Harvest is an ideal way to invite creative, caring people in our community to support nourishment for everyone.”
Second Harvest’s Nutrition Programs Group will be offering Mexican food in celebration of Dia de los Muertos as part of the museum’s Free First Friday Event. First Friday goers will be able to enjoy chicken and vegetarian tostadas, pico de gallo fruit salad with cucumber and jicama, and aguas frescas made with seasonal fruit. These healthy and delicious food items will be reasonably priced and proceeds will go toward the Holiday Food Drive.
Throughout the rest of November, the MAH will continue their focus on food with “Play with your Food” family art workshops on November 12 and a craft night featuring food-related activities on November 18.
“We are so excited to be a part of Free First Friday at the museum,” said Second Harvest Chief Development Officer Danny Keith. “The need for food aid in Santa Cruz County is up 38.3% since 2008. We’re feeding over 55,000 people each month and with a goal 2.5M pounds of food and cash equivalent for the Holiday Food Drive year, we couldn’t be happier to have the MAH on our team.”
