May Volunteer of the Month

SKMBT_C554e14051314420Ruben Alvarez has been the volunteer for the Food For Children program at Sunny Meadows Apartments for about four years. During the food distribution, he manages the registration table and helps clients sign for food. Ruben also shares healthy recipes, publicizes community meetings and events, and helps clients carry their bags of food. “I like it,” he says. “I like making people happy.”

Ruben was born and raised in Watsonville. “Soccer keeps me here,” he says. When he’s not volunteering with Second Harvest, Ruben is a soccer referee. Otherwise, you might find him helping with traffic at Freedom Elementary School, listening to his Walkman, dancing Zumba, or helping out his mom. The Second Harvest Food Bank is definitely lucky to have such a go-getting young man on our team!
