We invite you to join us at our Annual Awards Dinner on March 12th at the Hotel Paradox in Santa Cruz. Second Harvest will be honoring the 2014 Hunger Fighters of the Year, along with some of the businesses, schools, and organizations that made notable contributions during the 2013 Holiday Food Drive.
For Autumn and Simone, giving is a way of life. In the past two years, they have picked up over $26,000 worth of fresh organic food donations from the Felton and Santa Cruz Farmers’ Markets, for distribution through Valley Churches United’s emergency food pantry. During this time, they also organized and led four Safeway food drives, raising $8,642.00. These two teenagers have involved youth groups and San Lorenzo Valley organizations in their mission and are an excellent example of the effort it takes to fight hunger.
Through their work with Watsonville First United Methodist Church, AR and Fred Pointer have dedicated themselves to helping the working poor. They manage the church’s involvement in the winter meal program and coordinate volunteers to cook and serve. AR and Fred have volunteered at Second Harvest for many years and were instrumental in launching a Food For Children site in the church’s neighborhood. Their selfless devotion to ensuring families in need have access to wholesome food is an inspiration to their church and community.
Thank you and congratulations!
