Community Raises 3.65M Meals!

It seemed like you couldn’t go anywhere this past holiday season without seeing one of Second Harvest’s Holiday Food Drive barrels filled with donations of non-perishable food. Fund raising activities of every kind took place at schools, churches, retail stores, businesses and organizations throughout the county. Working together, the people of Santa Cruz County raised 3.65M meals for the elderly, disabled, and working poor families in our community.

Willy Elliott-McCrea, Chief Executive Officer of Second Harvest, announced the total on January 23rd at a donor appreciation event at Michael’s On Main in Soquel, which was sponsored by Second Harvest Board members. “With our current economy, this keeps us on track to meet the needs of our community,” said Elliott-McCrea. “I want to express my deepest appreciation for your support in 2013. All donations go directly to our network of 200 agencies and programs for the sole purpose of feeding people throughout the winter when there is less work in our season-driven local economy.”

We invite everyone to join Second Harvest for our Annual Awards Dinner on March 12th at the Hotel Paradox in Santa Cruz. We’ll be honoring our community heroes and 2014 Hunger Fighters of the Year, as well as introducing our 2014 Holiday Food Drive co-chair, Hilary Bryant at this fun community event. Seats are limited. Reserve your tickets here.

Again, thank you to everyone that made a contribution. We could not do what we do without your support. You make good things happen!
