5th Annual Be the Difference Awards Honor Local Volunteerism

Volunteers help sort food for distribution

Every year, the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz County honors individuals, groups, non-profits, and businesses that are dedicated to taking action and solving problems in our community through volunteerism. All of the nominees will be recognized at the 5th Annual Celebration on Oct 20th at the Cocoanut Grove, and a winner in each category will receive special honors through film and publicity.

Second Harvest’s Volunteer Services Manager, Danny Robles nominated Brenda Lane and Margaret Facchino, long time volunteers who are always willing to lend a hand at fund raising events. These women serve as a valuable extension of Second Harvest into the community.

He also nominated Keith & Mary Petersen, who both work at Plantronics. Just about every Saturday they can be found at our warehouse, sorting food for distribution. That’s quite a commitment.

Robles also nominated Teen Challenge Monterey Bay for the work they do in helping people get back on their feet and gain control of their lives.

The entire community is invited to celebrate the nominees and winners at the Cocoanut Grove Ballroom on October 20th from 11:30-1PM.

RSVP by October 14th by calling the Volunteer Center at 831-427-5070.

Tickets and lunch are $40 per person or $320 per table of 8.

Checks can be delivered to the Volunteer Center at 1740 17th Ave Suite 2, Santa Cruz, CA 95062 or can be provided on the day of the event.
